Preparing for Surgery
Two weeks before your surgery you will be seen in our office for a pre-operative visit. Please bring all
paperwork with you to this appointment.
Preoperative instructions will be giving to you along with prescriptions for medication to use before
and after your surgery.
DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN OR MEDICATION CONTAINING ASPRIN OR BLOOD THINNING PRODUCTS 10 DAYS PRIOR TO
YOUR SURGERY!
Aspirin interferes with blood clotting and increases the risk of complication relating
to bleeding. There are many over-the-counter medications, including Advil and Nuprin which may thin the
blood like asprin does. Many herbal products can also thin your blood. If you are not sure, please check
with our RN or call your pharmacist.
NO SMOKING THREE WEEKS BEFORE, AND THREE WEEKS AFTER SURGERY!
Even this precaution
may not prevent the complications that are frequently associated with the effects of nicotine on healing
and blood circulation.
YOU MAY NOT BE ALONE THE FIRST 24HRS AFTER SURGERY.
An adult family member or friend
should be prepared to take you home and assist you. If needed, we will be happy to assist you in making
arrangements with a nursing service or an overnight stay at an extended care facility. The person responsible
for you will be given instructions for your care. You will be seen the next day in our office for a postoperative
follow up.
There will be restrictions in your activities, such as work, driving and exercise following your surgery. The
specific restrictions vary and should be discussed with your surgeon. It is important that you remain in the Sarasota
area for approximately two weeks following your surgery.
Fees for cosmetics surgery are due 14 days prior to your scheduled operation.
If you have questions regarding these instructions, or any aspect of your care, please feel free to call. We want
your experience with Sarasota Plastic Surgery to be as pleasant as possible.
