Pre-Op Instructions

- Stop all medications and dietary supplements such as Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, Celebrex, Vitamins, protein powders, green teas and diet pills

- Patients on Coumadin will receive special instructions on when to stop and restart this important medication

- If having facial surgery, DO NOT have your hair colored, permed, or chemically altered after this point. You may color, perm or chemically alter your hair three weeks after surgery

- If having a laser procedure: your doctor may prescribe Valtrex (a medication to prevent cold sores). Take 1 tablet in the AM and 1 tablet in the PM.

- If having a laser procedure: take Valtrex 1 tablet in the AM and 1 tablet in the PM.

- Your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic as a precaution against infection (Usually Keflex or Cipro, depending on your allergies). Take 1 tablet the evening before surgery with dinner.

- Shower with liquid Dial antibacterial soap. If having facial surgery, also wash your hair with liquid Dial antibacterial soap. DO NOT apply hair products after washing your hair.

- DO NOT eat or drink (including water) after midnight. THIS APPLIES TO ALL PATIENTS, regardless of your surgery time.

- DO NOT eat or drink (except when taking medications use a small sip of water) Take all of your regular morning medications unless we have specifically asked you not to take them.

- If you are arriving for surgery after 11:00 AM, take 1 antibiotic tablet with a small sip of water early in the AM.

- Shower with Dial antibacterial soap again. Wash your hair with liquid Dial antibacterial soap again if you are having facial surgery. DO NOT apply hair products after washing your hair.

- DO wear loose, comfortable clothing that buttons or zips in the front and bring some warm socks.

- DO wear dentures and be aware you may need to remove them for anesthesia. Please bring a container to put them in.

- DO NOT apply any makeup.

- REMOVE NAIL POLISH from both index and middle fingers.

- DO NOT wear contact lenses, jewelry (including all piercings), or bring valuables.

- You will have a bladder catheter if your surgery is over four hours. This is for your safety and comfort during and after surgery. Please discuss any history of bladder problems with your doctor.

- If you are going to an overnight facility, they will provide medications as ordered by our doctor. Bring a bag with you containing the following:
- A change of clothes and proper shoes
- Regular prescriptions (from your other doctors) in their original prescription bottles
- Personal hygiene products
- Please DO NOT bring any valuables with you to the facility

Shopping List:
These are the things you will need to buy and have before surgery:
For All Surgeries:
- Liquid Dial Antibacterial Soap
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Q Tips
- Polysporin Antibiotic Ointment (Not needed for eyelid only procedures)

Add for Nasal Procedures:
- Saline Nasal Spray (Turn upside down for use as drops)
Add for Eyelid Surgery:
- Preservative-free eye drops (Dr. Mobley's Patients: Refresh PM ointment)

For Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, Breast Lift and Breast Reduction:
- 4 inch gauze
- 1 inch paper tape
